Liz Grant

Qualified Fitness Instructor and Pilates Coach

I am a fully qualified fitness instructor and currently hold my Level 3 Certificate in Instructing mat based Pilates, OCR Level 2 Certificate in Teaching Exercise & Fitness (Pilates), Rachel Holmes Fitness Pilates & OCR Level 3 Applying the principals of nutrition as part of a personal training programme.

I’ve been teaching Pilates since 2008 and hope that people enjoy my classes as much as I like teaching them. Each class is tailored to the individual, allowing you to progress at your own pace or to adapt to allow for injury. Working on strength and flexibility, each move flows in to the next, and with a concentration on the mind body connection, we nurture inside and out, to help create a happier, healthier you.

So why Pilates?

Pilates is an invigorating but gentle range of exercises, which help to increase mobility and flexibility, helping to improve general muscle strength and tone.

With emphasis as much on relaxation as exercise, the moves can be as gentle or demanding as you choose, and which allow you to progress at your own pace.

Pilates comes recommended by osteopaths, physiotherapists and GPís and can be enjoyed by any age, ability or gender and benefits can be seen in a matter of weeks.

Pilates works the muscles deep within the body, inside out creating deep stability in the body – known as the core.
It works big and small muscle groups, independently of each other, helping to correct imbalances in the body that can be caused by everyday life or postural faults.
In general exercise can help to lower blood pressure.
The meditative state created during Pilates can create a calmer, more relaxed and centered you, which can help to lower anxiety and improve symptoms of depression.
Pilates improves posture, making you more aware of how you move during daily activities and can make you look slimmer.
Pilates lengthens and strengthens the muscles of the body, unlike more traditional exercises which shorten the muscle fibers. Pilates can create a longer, leaner you.
Increasing lean muscle mass can increase metabolism.
Pilates is suitable for all – young or old, flexible or inflexible.
Pilates is a low impact exercise, meaning there is no jarring on the joints.
Pilates can increase bone density, circulation, energy and immunity.
Pilates can help to strengthen the muscles of the back, which may decrease back pain.
